With elevated stress & anxiety around what we’re seeing/hearing in the media, and the sudden shift to working from home, often in less than optimum, or just different, desk set-ups to accommodate the restrictions, musculoskeletal aches and pains are more prevalent. When these feelings arise, it is not unusual for us to seek massage as a form of relief, but with many regular massage businesses shut it can be hard to know what your options are.
While many therapeutic practices have been ordered to close down for the time being as a means to increase social distancing and reduce the spread of COVID-19, select professions including physiotherapy have been deemed “essential services” and so are able to continue to provide the necessary therapy many people suffer without.
For many conditions it is common for physiotherapists to use massage or other manual therapies to help alleviate symptoms and improve movement tolerance. With thorough hygiene & modified waiting practices in place, clients are safe to enter our clinic and receive the hands-on treatment they’re needing. If massage or other techniques have been effective for you in the past, please don’t hesitate to let your physio know (either at the time of the appointment or in advance when making the booking) as they are there to assist you with what you want and need.
Our physios are also highly skilled in movement & positioning advice and may be able to provide some longer term, or preventative solutions for the problems you’re experiencing beyond that of hands-on relief. Our exercise space also remains open for one-on-one physio-lead exercise sessions.
Common issues arising from time in isolation, that may benefit from hands-on therapy include:
- Neck & back pain
- Headaches
- General muscular tension
- Stress & mood disorders (anxiety, depression)
So, if you’re experiencing some new aches and pains and are needing hands on treatment, we are and will continue to be here for you.
For those who would prefer not to visit us in the clinic, we also offer telehealth consultations online or a home visit service which can provide the same hands-on treatment in the comfort of your own home.
