Amy Zilm joins the team at The Physio Clinic

Amy graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Latrobe University in Melbourne. She primarily works in The Physio Clinic’s hospital team in Adelaide, providing inpatient rehabilitation to patients during their hospital stay post-surgery and also consults at our Physio Clinic in Toorak Gardens (Burnside Hospital). Amy has a special interest in orthopaedic rehabilitation and musculoskeletal injuries. She has additional training in dry needling and occupational rehabilitation.

    Amy’s story

My first experience of physiotherapy was receiving treatment for various hockey injuries! My hockey club and local physiotherapists always helped me return to hockey with no physical limitations within a short time frame. They also educated me about how to look after my body and how to prevent further injuries. These experiences sparked my interest in becoming a physiotherapist.

Soon after completing my degree to become a physiotherapist, I started working in a private practice where I treated patients with sports and musculoskeletal injuries. I quickly developed a passion for orthopaedic physiotherapy, assisting patients pre and post-surgery.

Over the years, I’ve predominantly worked in orthopaedics across a number of physiotherapy settings including: inpatients, outpatients, in-home, occupational and the community. I am currently working across five private hospitals in Adelaide, and also at the The Physio Clinic's Burnside Hospital location.

Physiotherapy is a fantastic career. We can develop our skills into areas of practice that interest and inspire us. The educational growth is ongoing – we never stop learning. I always appreciate learning from my senior physiotherapy mentors, healthcare team members, colleagues, and of course patients!

I am continually inspired by my patients, from witnessing their struggle to initially manage simple tasks or deal with pain and discomfort, but persevering with courage and determination throughout their rehabilitation. I’m thankful for the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. It gives me a sense of purpose, accomplishment and reward.
