Unfortunately ankle sprains are all too common on the football field.

The ankle has ligaments that connect bone to bone which help to stabilise the joint. However with all the twisting, jumping and turning that happens during the game, it is very easy to tear these ligaments.

There are several risk factors which can lead to ankle sprains, including poor strength and poor balance. However, the top risk factor is previous ankle injuries, in particular those that are poorly rehabilitated.

If you do sustain an ankle sprain, a physiotherapist can help to manage the acute phase of the injury and then look to implement a rehabilitation plan to prevent recurrence.

Tip: Try an ankle brace for added support.

An ankle brace can also help to support your ankle, restricting movements past a normal range of movement. This means an ankle brace will help to reduce the risk of repetitive ankle sprains and reduce the severity.

We have access to different ankle braces at The Physio Clinic and we can easily supply and fit one for you.

The Physio Clinic now has programs to help you spend more time on the field and less on the bench. Simply get in touch to find out more.
